Compare fresh turmeric, dried turmeric fingers and powder by processing needs, packing, handling and buyer specifications.
The right turmeric purchase starts with what your business will do after delivery. Buying the cheapest quoted kilogram can create extra work if the shipment arrives in a form your team cannot process, pack or store appropriately.
Fresh turmeric, dried turmeric fingers and turmeric powder are different buying decisions. Use this guide to prepare a requirement before asking an exporter for a price.
Fresh turmeric: plan the handling first
Fresh turmeric is supplied as fresh rhizomes rather than dried spice. Buyers should discuss harvest timing, cleaning, grading, packing and the expected journey before agreeing a shipment. Confirm how the product will be received and handled at destination, including any storage conditions required for the chosen route.
Do not adopt a universal shelf-life figure from a generic product description. Ask the supplier to explain the proposed handling plan for the actual lot, packaging and transit conditions.
Dried turmeric fingers: retain control over further processing
Dried fingers may suit a buyer that wants to grind or otherwise process turmeric after receipt. Spices Board guidance describes conventional turmeric processing through curing, drying and polishing, with polishing improving appearance. A polished surface is therefore not a substitute for agreed analytical specifications.
Ask whether the offer is for polished or unpolished material, what cleaning is included, and how broken pieces or foreign matter will be assessed. Confirm the processing description in writing so that two quotations can be compared fairly.
Turmeric powder: specify the finished ingredient
Powder can reduce the buyerโs need for grinding, but the enquiry still needs detail. Specify the intended application, particle-size requirement, pack format, labelling needs and agreed testing. If colour matters in your recipe, define how the sample will be evaluated instead of relying only on an image sent by phone.
For repeat purchasing, keep the approved specification and sample reference with the order records. A later shipment should be assessed against those records, rather than against memory of the previous delivery.
Compare costs on the same basis
A fresh-product quote and a dried-product quote are not directly comparable simply because both show a price per kilogram. Ask what usable product you need and which processing, transport, handling and packing costs remain after delivery.
- Will your team need to clean, dry, grind or repack the material?
- Does the quoted pack suit your receiving and storage arrangements?
- Are testing, samples and transport included or priced separately?
- Do both offers use the same quantity, delivery terms and destination?
One enquiry, three clear options
If you are still choosing a form, request separate offers with separate specifications. Avoid an order description that combines โfresh,โ โdriedโ and โdouble polishedโ as if they describe one product.
Jaonix International accepts bulk turmeric enquiries. Share your intended use, volume, packing preference and destination so that the appropriate form and available supply can be discussed.
